Employers – What first impression are you leaving?

shutterstock_130099706Just as employers expect candidates to make a good first impression, candidates are expecting the same from employers. Job seeking can be a stressful and time consuming process. Too many times candidates submit an application and never hear back.  As an employer, you wouldn’t want the candidate to never respond to you –- it’s a two-way street. Honest communication throughout the process is important.

Here is what we are doing to improve our candidate experience. Like most companies we are implementing an applicant tracking system (ATS) to help streamline the hiring process and improve the candidate experience.  This applicant-tracking system will provide regular updates to the candidate as their application is processed. Once the candidate is hired the ATS continues to create a seamless on-boarding process.

But we didn’t just stop with an ATS.  We’re using social media to connect with our candidates.  Twitter and Instagram accounts have been created to build an internal community and give our candidates a look at our culture. Along those lines we’ve involved our employees and developed a ‘beyond the job description’ profile for different open positions.

Weekly, we’re logging into LinkedIn to host live discussions during an “Ask a Recruiter” session. Candidates can come to LinkedIn and ask our recruiters questions about positions and the hiring process.

A transparent and honest recruiting process is a great way to give candidates a good first impression.
