She had us at “Mr. Alexander.”
When Brenda Castile-Munoz stepped to the podium at National Louis University’s June CPSA Commencement to give the student address, she related how her high school teacher, Mr. Alexander, told her way back in 1979 she and her friends would never amount to anything.
Despite setback after setback, decade after decade, that remark spurred Castile-Munoz as she kept on moving forward, until she got her bachelor’s degree, and now her M.S. in Written Communication, from National Louis University. Her story left many in tears, and her play, written as part of the M.S. in Written Communication program, will be produced Aug. 6 at NLU’s Summer Playfest.
Both the Naperville Sun and Patch.com ran stories about Brenda’s indomitable spirit. Check them out and find out the next big thing she plans to tackle.
