Hotel Chicago West Loop, which is known for its art gallery and its streetscape art in guest rooms, has named an alum of Kendall College of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management as its general manager.
Jean-Luc Laramie earned his B.A. in hospitality management in 2012. He enrolled at Kendall after taking a hotel management training program in Amman, Jordan, then worked as a bell boy while taking classes at Kendall.
From there, his career progressed to concierge, night audit, manager on duty, front desk manager and operations manager.
“This is not your typical hotel,” Laramie told eHotelier.com. “While we may not have all the bells and whistles, we have a colorful culture that cannot be replicated. It’s exactly the sort of thing today’s contemporary traveler appreciates!”
Laramie, who at 31 is one of the younger general managers around town, welcomes diversity in his staff. He also espouses a training system which shows new hires how their job fits in with the other staff roles in order to provide a smooth and convenient experience for guests.
“By involving our employees in our vision, it becomes their vision too,” Laramie told eHotelier. “Our staff brings together different cultures and different experiences. Like the unique artwork found around the hotel, we celebrate individuality and continually try to learn from each other.”
